Science & Technology focused Philippines
03.24.04 (6:11 pm)   [edit]
WHAT IF newly voted president of the Philippines mandates all the sectors of the government to focus on science and technology. First and foremost, is the technological development of the agricultural sector. We have vast natural resources but we lag in terms of rice production with our neighboring Asian countries. We even import rice from other countries wherein before it is the opposite.

With this given presidential mandate the education department will introduce and focus on subjects that relates to agriculture. New courses will be developed to speciallize in studying and developing the land. Agricultural research laboratories will be established to augment the knowledge we have in school. To better serve their students school campuses will be built in provinces. This will also serve as a hands-on expreience among the students. As a result the cities will be less congested because schools are in the rural areas.

With the given presidential mandate, the legislative branch of our government will focus on passing laws that will directly and indirectly benefit the farmers. Tariff on imported fertilizers will be minimized to lower the production cost of the farmers. Budget appropriations will be prioritized to agricultural agencies of the government.

With the given presidential mandate, the DPWH will prioritize road and bridge development in rural areas. Better farm-to-market roads will result to fresh and better produce in the markets. Irrigation channels will be built to help farmes water their land. This will ensure a whole year production of rice and vegetables.

With the given presidential mandate, the DOST will focus on agricultural research. They will study the produce of other countries so that our farm produce can compete in the world market. They will benchmark new methods in planting and cultivating. They will research new machineries that will lessen or ease the work load of the farmers.

With the given presidential mandate, the Bureau of Customs will target illegal cargoes of rice and vegetables that saturate our market. They will also help the Bureau of Quarantine to safeguard our ecosystems from plants being brought from other countries.

Farmers will be considered heroes because they feed the country. Citizens will look up to them because of their great contribution to their country. Farmers will take pride of their work and their service to their motherland.

These are just some scenarios of what will happen if we elect leaders who happens to have a vision for a better Philippines. Leaders who can unite the people to a better future. Leaders who up to now we are waiting to emerge from the filth of today's culture.

Selection Committee for poors aspiring to be legislators
03.22.04 (5:47 pm)   [edit]
WHAT IF there is a selection committee that will fund and help a poor but educated aspiring legislator campaign in the elections?

Nowadays, it is seldom, if not never, that we can see a poor but educated man voted for positions in the government. There may be some well-intentioned and educated but poor filipinos who want to try politics but they cannot do so because of the required financial capital to launch a campaign. So politics in the Philippines belongs to the rich and the affluent (political) families. And instead of helping their fellow Filipinos rise above the poverty line, they amass wealth from the goverment to make them more wealthy.

They cannot put themselves in a poor man's shoes because they themselves didn't experience the hardships of life. What i mean of hardships of life is that you barely eat three times a day, or walk long distances to school to save your allowance. All they think about is how to get more richer to prepare again for the next elections. And majority of the poor Filipinos remains poor.

Because of these its a chain reaction. The poor remains poor. Most of them didn't go to school because basic education here in the Philippines is not totally free. Without formal education most of them would not be hired even for a lowly position. Uneducated people are branded as crooks and criminals. A number of them are crooks and criminals because it proves to them that it is the only way they can feed their families. Poor families who have high school or college graduates remains poor mainly becuase of the few job opportunities.

If we elect a man who comes from a poor family, his main priority remains to his fellow poor Filipinos. On how he can alleviate them from poverty. How can we be sure? That is the main purpose of the screening committe. They will scrutinize and evaluates aspiring legislators before the latter has the chance to fool the people. If he sways from his given mandate, he can easily be spotted because he cannot use the reasons of: multiple income sources, family business, inherited wealth. These are the reasons legislators nowadays give when they are questioned of their increased wealth.

The bottom line is we must replace the culture that is prevailing in Philippine politics. We must inject new blood in our political system. This blood must be screened and evaluated from disease and toxins that eating away and weakening our political body.

NOTE: Poor here means people who are not considered wealthy. Poor means people from below the poverty line and the middle class.
